Besides my studio artwork, drawings, and photography, many of the paintings that I have been working on lately are En Plein Air (outside in nature) landscapes.
Even though these paintings are Representational and somewhat Realistic, they are actually Naturalistic, which means that I have added to what I could see.
I tried to make these colorful Impressionistic paintings abstractly and expressionistically communicate with the viewer, by helping them to feel what it is actually like to climb a mountain, or stand by a flowing stream for a length of time as the day comes and goes and the seasons pass.
In order to paint these artworks I may climb to the high mountain tops, set up my easel by bubbling brooks, streams, or waterfalls, or other natural locations which are generally devoid of people.
The mountaintops can be windy, sunny cloudy, or a range of different conditions that can change all day long, year after year.
I sometimes re-climb the same mountain, at the same time of year, year after year, in order to capture this expressionistic vision at the same time of year.
Many times I interact with passing hikers and they take my picture while painting.
Some of my artworks have been completed rather quickly, or some pieces may take many years to complete.
Some were directly involved in the idea and the process of inventing the art, whereas others took me a really long time to finish.
I found that over the course of my life that I really appreciated the artworks that I put maximum effort into, whether that happened quickly, or over a long period of time.
I work on many in the studio as well, working out all the feelings and the vision that I encountered when I began.
I still love the idea of the process of making art, so I still make new modern artworks at the same time as working on older artworks in my studio.
The plein-air landscapes are part of a process of really looking at a natural spot and translating it onto the canvas.
The canvas itself is usually linen and hand-wrapped around heavy duty stretcher bars.
The richly applied, highest quality oil paint, which seems to melt off the support, can enable the viewer to engage texturally with the highly impasto’d surfaces that have been slowly built up over time.
The paintings also reflect a feeling of 3-D space due to the textures and method of painting.
It wasn't until the advent of the Internet, that I was able to show enough work at one time for people to see what my art was all about.
I am jetiii (My Trademark and initials) or jetiiiart on Instagram.
The date of the artwork also unlocks a key to the art history of it. Compare my work to what was being done in the 1980’s, 1990’s, and you will see just how my artworks have influenced so many.
“If you could say it in words, there would be no reason to paint.”
